Remain at the scene of the accident
If someone is hurt, always stay at the scene until police and help arrive.

DO NOT admit responsibility
Be cooperative, gather information, stay calm and fully understand that even saying you are sorry can be construed as an admission of guilt in an accident. You may think you are at fault in an accident, but later come to learn that others were at fault.

Gather as much information as possible
Don't be hesitant to gather complete contact information from all parties involved in the accident including other drivers, witnesses, and passengers. This also includes writing down the license plate numbers and insurance information of any involved drivers. Taking photos of the accident scene can support your case as well. When you think you have taken enough photographs, take a few more!

Call the police
Remember, always call the police if you are involved in an auto accident. The police officers who arrive on the scene will collect pertinent information, conduct an investigation, and write an official police report determining who is at fault. This investigation will provide information to your insurance company to support future insurance and liability claims. This is especially true if someone is injured.

Get medical attention
If you have ever been in an accident, then you know that many accident injuries can show up days or weeks later. So get treatment as quickly as possible. These medical records can be critically important to future accident claims. If your injuries are not an emergency or life threatening, try one of the many urgent care facilities in your community.
